Description
Ducaton coin minted in 1758 at the Middelburg mint (Netherlands), part of the series known as “Silver Rider”, one of the most representative and appreciated types of 18th-century Dutch numismatics. Specimen in EBC- condition, with light and homogeneous wear, retaining most of the original details and an excellent overall presence. The reliefs remain well-defined and the piece shows a patina consistent with its age, very attractive for this type of silver issue. Minted in high-purity silver (approx. 0.941) and weighing close to 32 grams, the ducaton was a highly prestigious coin in international trade at the time, widely accepted for its quality and regularity. The obverse features the armored knight on horseback over the shield, classic “Silver Rider” iconography symbolizing the strength and sovereignty of the United Provinces. The reverse shows the crowned shield supported by lions and the legend “CONCORDIA RES PARVAE CRESCUNT”, reflecting the political ideal of unity. The Middelburg mint is particularly interesting within this series, being less common than others like Utrecht, which adds additional appeal to the specimen. A large, historical, and impressive piece, ideal for collectors of 18th-century European coinage and high-quality commercial silver.
